1. What should I expect during my first session?
Although you may feel quite comfortable with me given what you’ve read about me and my journey online, please know it’s completely normal to feel anxious about starting work with a new therapist. Don’t worry if you feel like you won’t know what to say. I’m quite skilled in the area of rapport building, and I will converse with you at a pace and depth that’s comfortable for you! The first session will simply be focused on gathering background information about you, and if time permits, we will work on the creation of treatment goals for our time in therapy together.
2. How long do I have to stay in therapy?
Therapy is an at-will relationship. Meaning, at any time you can begin therapy, and at any time, you can end therapy. I may offer recommendations based on your unique circumstance, treatment goals, and current progress, but you are not legally bound to abide by any of it.
3. Are you only doing online therapy?
Yes.
4. What is art therapy?
Excellent question! It’s one I frequently receive. Simply put- art therapy is a tool by which you and I can explore your various emotions, experiences and thoughts through creative means. It also provides an excellent way to promote relaxation and the uncovering of unconscious therapeutic material. Please note that I’m not an art teacher, and I would never provide critiques of your art based on presentation.
5. Do I have to use EMDR and/or art therapy in my therapy if I don't want to?
Not at all! I treat each client individually, and therefore your treatment plan will be created on an individual basis. Your treatment plan does not have to include EMDR, art therapy, or any other intervention style you don't consent to.
6. How often do we need to meet?
This is a personal decision with no right or wrong answer. Most of my clients begin by seeing me either weekly or biweekly, then transition to monthly maintenance sessions. No two clients are the same, so each decision will be a personal one. No matter the frequency you decide, I've discovered that consistency is truly the key to seeing the benefits of your investment. We can work together to find a frequency of treatment that allows you to receive the therapeutic support you desire and see meaningful steps forward towards your goals.
7. If I reach out for a consultation, what should I do to prepare?
Great question! The purpose of the consultation is to give you and I the chance to talk prior to beginning any work together. This conversation is usually the best time to ask any questions you may have about me and my services. The best way to utilize this time would be to prepare a list of meaningful questions you'd like answered beforehand, that way you won't feel pressured on the phone to come up with a list of questions. There are no right or wrong questions, and I welcome the chance to provide you with as much information beforehand as possible so you can make an informed decision regarding your care.
8. Can I work with you if my primary residence is not in the state of California?
Great question! Teletherapy has opened up so many options for providers to serve clients from all over the world. I only have the authority to provide therapeutic services to residents residing in CA. So unfortunately, I won’t be able to see you as a client if you permanent address is anywhere outside of CA.
9. Do you work with children or families?
At this time, my primary therapeutic focus is on adult women.
10. Where did your business name come from?
A dear friend of mine referenced Matthew 9:22 while I was going through my pregnancy loss journey. Little did she know that 9:22 held a deeper, very special meaning for me. It was the projected due date for the twins I lost. This scripture and the meaning placed on it became the inspiration for my business name.
